Hi, UC in DC alums. Next Tuesday September 24, 2013 6:30 pm I'm moderating a panel called "Internships: How to Provide Successfully". It's part of a two-panel series, the second of which is "Internships: What Interns Should Know" (Oct 9). The event is sponsored by Women in Film and Video. We're sponsoring it because there have been a number of high-profile court cases in the film/television/publishing industry recently (see more at (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/21/jobs/unpaid-interns-silent-no-more.htm)), but I think the topic is broadly relevant.

The first panel - Internships: How to Provide Successfully is intended for individuals and businesses who want to offer internships to demonstrate how they can be done legally and benefit the interns as well as your projects. Panelists include Trina Fairley Barlow, a partner at Crowell & Moring who specializes in employment law; Julia Beyer, Career Advisor at the School of Communications, American University; Nina Gilden Seavey, independent filmmaker and director of The Documentary Center at The George Washington University; and Rosemary Reed, President, Double R Productions. Bios are below.

For more information about the event, please check out (http://www.wifv.org/events/#id=31&cid=783&wid=401) and if you attend, please find me and say hi!
