Join us for the next installment of our “Mind Your Career” webinar series, featuring career coach Wayne Scott, AB'86, AM'89. This webinar will highlight the benefits of executive coaching and discussing why it has become standard practice across a variety of industries.
Executive coaching is becoming a standard practice in many private, public, and non-profit organizations. This webinar will focus on the 'why' of executive coaching, especially as it applies to mid-career and seasoned leaders:
- How do leaders expand applied wisdom within organizations?
- How do organizations nurture and sustain leaders who are organizationally savvy, emotionally astute, and visionary?
- How do coaches help create capacity for systems thinking, the ability to tolerate complexity and ambiguity, and what author Marty Linsky has called "adaptive leadership"?
In addition to responding to these questions, the instructor will review core aspects of leadership growth, such as 360 assessments, developmental or "stretch" assignments, and the importance of community-building with colleagues within and outside their organizations.
About the presenter, Wayne Scott, AB'86, AM'89:

For the past eight years, Wayne Scott has led leadership development and coaching programming for Multnomah County, OR. His writing has appeared in numerous publications, including The University of Chicago Magazine, The Oregonian, Salon.com, and The Psychotherapy Networker, among others. His short article “The Scary Things That Can Make You a Stronger Leader,” appeared recently in Governing. He has a Master of Arts in clinical social work (1989) and a Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities (1986) from the University of Chicago, as well as a Master of Fine Arts (Creative Writing, 1995) from The American University.
